Here in Maine it was the PERFECT day for an eclipse - it wasn't "total," though. The sky didn't darken yet it appeared as if the sun were setting in the "South." The trees looked odd being lit in the dimming light from that direction rather than from the normal Westerly direction. I was "shocked" - pun intended - when I heard about the earthquake and the subsequent after-shock. Glad all is as it should be.
We had a fine view of the eclipse, but some moron who was beyond being in a hurry, flew past us in the breakdown lane at 80 or better. Can you imagine what level of consternation would have happened 500 years ago if the earthquake and the eclipse had happened on the same day...There's a story there, methinks.
