I thought I would share this vintage Easter snapshot with you of me, my sister and my dad. That’s me standing next to my dad and my sister and a giant stuffed bunny rabbit standing off by herself. Not pictured is my mom who almost certainly took this photo. As anyone who is friends with my mom on Facebook can attest, she takes a LOT of photos.
What’s the story behind this picture? Why is my sister standing so far away from Dad and me? I have to admit, I do not remember. Perhaps Mom just wanted to arrange us so that the pretty Easter flowers were in the center of the picture. There’s also the possibility that my sister and I were fighting shortly before this picture was taken or maybe my sister was feeling annoyed with my dad, I have to admit both of these are very real possibilities.
I do remember our house with the pond next door, though it looks even closer than I remember it in this photo. This was at a time when ponds in New Jersey regularly froze during the winter, and having a pond next door, meant we could go ice skating anytime we wanted when the conditions were right. So, that was pretty fun. This pond was also a popular spot for mallard ducks, a muskrat and the occasional egret. So, it was like a miniature nature sanctuary in the middle of the NJ suburbs, which was a special treat.
Speaking of treats I hope your Easter is full of them, both the sweet kind that fill up Easter baskets and the special ones like enjoying time spent with loved ones or perhaps enjoying the animals in your own local pond or backyard. May it be a time of peace and joy for you and your loved ones.
