On the off chance that any of you reading this are houseplant experts, I’m going to share a picture of my snake plant (also called a mother-in-law’s tongue). This houseplant is happy and doing well, but there is a mystery that so far I haven’t been able to solve. Why is there one shoot (Stalk? I don’t know the correct snake plant term.) that’s so much taller than all the others?
As you can see from this photo that one center stalk (I’m going to go with stalk because why not?) towers over the others. I actually had to snap this picture at kind of a weird angle so that I could get the whole stalk in the frame. Also I was trying not to show off my messy desk.
Anyway, I can’t seem to figure out why that one stalk is so much bigger than the rest. I tried Google and learned that this is not an entirely uncommon phenomenon as others have definitely had the same question, but unfortunately no one seemed to provide a satisfatory answer. On a side note, the internet is becoming more and more useless by the day. I’m sure the answer is out there somewhere, but there’s so much garbage out there it’s not easy to find.
Going further off on this tangent, it’s interesting to see how the garbage information is really rising to the top of searches these days. Last night I was searching for cars that have reclining rear seats. I kept turning up the same list of the top cars with reclining rear seats over and over again, which was frustrating because my own car was on the list, and it definitely does NOT have a reclining rear seat. So that led me to do more Googling in case this was some sort of option on other models of my car, and eventually worked out that the backseats of a Mazda CX-5 are described as reclining, because apparently they can go back approximately one inch further than perfectly upright. You would think that fact might have been mentioned on those pages with the list of cars with reclining seats, but nope. They mostly talked about how the back seats can be folded down, which is definitely not the same thing as reclining.
I’m sure if I really devoted a lot of research time into snake plants I could eventually solve the mystery of the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar of stalks, but it’s just a matter of curiosity for me, and I don’t really feel like investing the time. The plant is overall pretty healthy, so I’m not concerned. That one yellowish stalk was because I previously had it in a spot where it was getting too much direct sun. It’s much more happier where it is now. There was a stalk that broke off when I was moving it. I stuck it in a jar of water for a bit, then back into the dirt and it’s been doing fine. Ron has nicknamed that stalk Groot.
By the way, this plant is something of a family heirloom. It used to be my grandmother’s plant. Then my mom took posession of it, and it lived for many years in my parents’ kitchen. When they packed up the house to move down to Florida, it got passed down to me, and I’ve been doing my best to look after it.
Well unless any of you have any brilliant snake plant insights the super stalk may remain a mystery.

My apologies for the typos and such this post is almost certainly riddled with.
Lol I love it
That’s a pretty plant but alas I have no explanation for it. But I do agree with the crap on the internet. I googled search veterinarians in my area and it came up with a porn search. How does that happen? I just wanted to see what ones had the best reviews !!!!
