This morning I was busy in the kitchen, doing a little baking, and by a little I mean baking an itty bitty birthday cake, that’s just about the right size for two people. Here’s the work in progress and also our harvest gold countertop, which I can assure you was very much on-trend back when today’s birthday celebrant was born:
Here’s the finished product. Apologies for the lettering that looks like it might have been taken from a note written by a serial killer:
Note to self: buy a new tube of writing icing the next time I make a cake, instead of trying to make do with the handful of nearly empty tubes we have laying around.
I did have some entertainment while working on baking Ron his birthday cake, as one of our more interesting neighbors was doing something in the backyard that involved the use of heavy machinery. Just, what precisely he was up to, is not entirely clear. If this morning’s entertainment was a show it would be called “Unsolved Mysteries.”
Ron’s notoriously difficult to buy gifts for, so I was relieved when I told him about the guitar pick punch we had gotten for my niece for her birthday, and he said he might like one too. Then another little bonus gift suggested itself to me last week, and thankfully I was able to get another little gift in time that fits with the musical theme of this year’s birthday.
Speaking of little gifts, if you’re an Instagram user in the U.S. I’m running a little giveaway over on my Instagram account for a mug from my Zazzle shop. If you would like to enter, you’ll probably have pretty good odds since I don’t have a large Instagram following. Here’s the link to the giveaway.
If you’re not an Instagram user, but still like winning things, stay posted. I plan on doing a little giveaway for readers of my weekly musings in the not too distant future.
In the meantime, I hope you all have sweet week!

My apologies for the typos and such this post is almost certainly riddled with.
I love baking, but cakes instill some deep seated fear!! Good job!
Please send good cakes to my house.
Happy Birthday Ron!
